Time is Near!

1355643

Well this will be the last post before the big day tomorrow, so lets do a bit of housekeeping. First just a reminder that you can vote from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm at any of the locations listed below:

  • Blackburn Community Center
  • DP Todd Secondary School
  • Edgewood Elementary School
  • John McInnis Center
  • Kelly Road Secondary School
  • Malaspina Elementary School
  • Ron Brent Elementary School
  • Vanway Elementary School

So get out there and let your council know you care.

Second I would like to thank Albert Koelher for participating in the pgelxn blog. I would also like to thank school board trustee candidates Katie Cooke, Don Sabo, Denise MacdonaldDori Alger, Tony Cable, Trish Bella, and Valentine Crawford all for participating as well. I have chatted with candidates and it looks like this election was a lot more work than ones past so I hope that means that more people are getting out to vote. Maybe positive changes are coming for our city.

Thirdly I was sent an email the other day that gave me a huge boost. This blog takes a lot of time during election time and I do it because I want to help make Prince George a great city. So when I get emails like the one below

“Thanks for hosting all of this information centrally.  This made me feel a lot more informed regarding the candidates and perceived issues for Prince George.  I think this is the push I need to get out and vote this year. A great big thank you!  Laura”

it makes it all worthwhile. My goals has always been to get more people out to vote and with the number of views I have been getting this last week (3026 on Thursday and 2768 as of 10:08pm on Friday) I know people are finding value in this blog.

The fourth and last thing I would like to talk about is something that happened to one of the council candidates. Unfortunately Trent Derrick answers to his Prince George Citizen questions got switched with someone else and he is getting dragged through the mud for these other answers. I don’t know what happened at the Prince George Citizen, but Trent has proved me a link to his correct answers on the updated Citizen article on their website. Follow the link below

2 More Councilors + 18 School Board Trustees

VoteWell we only have 5 more day until we vote for our new Mayor and Council. I would like to thank Ron Gallo and Roy Spooner for participating in the pgelxn blog. Have you decided who your voting for yet?

I have been getting a ton of e-mails from people asking for information about the School Board Trustees. I have caved to the pressure and add a school trustee page for each candidate running for those positions. I know it is a bit late in the game, but time is hard to come by right now. So I hope this will help those that have been asking and I hope that the candidates get their information in.

Today has being a crazy day on the pgelxn blog. Besides adding pages for all of the School Board Trustees, and getting at least 20 emails from all you great people, the visits to the blog have been through the roof. Today alone (as of 2:45pm) we are sitting at 1086 visits. That is amazing and I can not thank the citizens of Prince George for supporting this blog.

I got an email yesterday from Chelsea asking about when and were people can vote and what time. She had an interesting idea about how to get people out to vote. Now her idea is not rocket science, but a great idea none the less and one that I did not think about and wonder if the city has thought about it. Chelsea idea revolved around sending out a simple reminder card stating where, when, and what time you can vote. A lot of people may not know that information and a simple card in the mail could fix that. A great idea and a simple one. For those of you that do not know the When and where’s of this coming election here you go:

November 5th, 2014 (Advanced Voting) 8:00am to 8:00pm

  • City Hall

November 12th, 2014 (Advanced Voting) 8:00am to 8:00pm

  • City Hall

November 13th, 2014 (Advanced Voting) 8:00am to 8:00pm

  • UNBC: Doug Little Lounge

November 15th, 2014 (General Voting) 8:00am to 8:00pm

  • Blackburn Community Center
  • DP Todd Secondary School
  • Edgewood Elementary School
  • John McInnis Center
  • Kelly Road Secondary School
  • Malaspina Elementary School
  • Ron Brent Elementary School
  • Vanway Elementary School

All of this information can be found on the City of Prince George website as well.

First Mayoral Response

Don ZurowskiWe have just gotten our first response from one of the two gentlemen running for mayor of Prince George. Thank You Don Zurowski for participating in the PGELXN Blog and Good luck on your candidacy. The last 3 days have been very busy on the blog with 407 people visiting on Tuesday, 655 visits on Wednesday, and 781 visits on Thursday. Keep spreading the word and let your neighbours know that the information is out there to help them vote.

The Mayoral forum was well attended last night at UNBC in the Canfor theater. The theater holds about 250 people and there were people standing along the top as every seat was full. The forum was very well done as the moderator held each candidate accountable to answering the questions asked as well as letting them have some fun with each other. I thought the last question was really good as the moderator asked Lyn Hall to sum up Don Zurowski’s platform and what he learned about don that night. She them asked Don to do the same for Lyn. It looked like both were caught a bit of guard by this and it allowed for some unscripted commentary for both mayoral hopefuls. Were you at the forum last night? How did you think each candidate did? Leave your comments and let others know that could not make it last night to the forum.

I have included the link to the CKPG News site on their story about the Forum last night Mayoral Candidates Square Off at UNBC

Wow

6384459Well yesterday was a busy day for the PGELXN Blog as 407 people visited the page to grab their information for the upcoming election, which by the way is only 10 days away. I have added two more candidates to the blog. Thank You Jason Luke and Ravi Saxena for submitting your platform and information so the citizens of Prince George can make informed decisions on November 15th.

Have you made your decision yet as to who you are voting for? Leave comments here and let us know who you are voting for and why?

17 more council candidates to go!

Another 4Well we are getting down to the final days of the campaign trail for all the candidates with only 13 day until decision day. Thank you to Debora Munoz, Harry Ulch, Terri McConnachie, and Travis Shaw for participating in the PGELXN blog. We now have 9 candidates participating on the blog. Spread the word so we can get the other 17 council candidates to participate and the 2 mayoral hopefuls.

The volume of traffic has picked up since the lost post and is now receiving 100 visits a day steadily. I suspect that like last time that number will grow significantly as we draw closer to election day.

This year I have not been able to make it out to very many of the forums that go on in the city during election time. Not everyone can get to the forums, so my hope with this post is that people will leave comments highlighting the best parts of the forums that they attended so that people can get an idea of what is being said by the candidates.

20 Days & Counting

4Well we are now only 20 days away for election day. Thank you Brian Mix, Jillian Merrick, Monica Peacock, and Trent Derrick for your participation in the PGELXN blog. More candidates have contacted me and are going to participate in the PGELXN blog, so keep checking back. My goal is to have 100% participation this election so that the citizens of Prince George can get their information and get out and vote.  Spread the word and let people know that there is a resource out there to help gathering your information to vote easier.

There has been some questions on Twitter about why I do not include the school trustees in the blog. Last election I decided to create this blog a bit late in the election and did not have enough time to gather what I needed to make it fair for the people running. This year with 26 people running for council and two running for mayor I have found it a bit overwhelming to include the 18 school trustee candidates as well. That would bring the total number of candidates on the blog for this year to 46. I hope that there is someone in Prince George willing to take on the school trustees and help them have their voices heard.
