The world today is very different from the world of twenty years ago. In two decades the skills knowledge and processes required to succeed have transformed in many ways. The challenge of education is to recognize what we do not know. We need a system of education that prepares our youth to become lifelong learners, to be prepared to adapt to changes in environment and technology. We need people that are creative, innovative and able to work collaboratively in an increasingly complex and challenging world. That means developing schools that are not about passing tests but about developing adaptability, creativity, critical thinking and the life skills necessary to anticipate and accommodate changes as they come. The methods of the 20th century that focused on creating cogs in an assembly line will not serve us well in the 21st. Trustees need to be advocates for our schools. We need to push for increased resources for our schools and meaningful supports to meet the needs of our children
