TeamworkNovember 15th, 2014 has come and gone. A bit more of Prince George showed up for this election as 34% came out to vote as opposed to the 28% in 2011. This is encouraging , but there is still more work to do. There was a referendum vote on this ballot as well. Did Prince George support continued fluoridation? The numbers don’t lie and 10,171 people vote no as opposed to 8,764 yes votes to having fluoride in our water system. This referendum was non-binding so city does not have to stop putting fluoride into the water system, but you have to think how bad it would look if they didn’t stop and it’s citizens told them to. I was told on multiple occasions that the last three years of council were kind of dysfunctional for a couple of reasons. The two most common reasons I heard were lack of teamwork and lack of communication. I hope that this newly elected council lead by our new mayor can come together and get Prince George moving forward again.

Time is Near!

Well this will be the last post before the big day tomorrow, so lets do a bit of housekeeping. First just a reminder that you can vote from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm at any of the locations listed below:

  • Blackburn Community Center
  • DP Todd Secondary School
  • Edgewood Elementary School
  • John McInnis Center
  • Kelly Road Secondary School
  • Malaspina Elementary School
  • Ron Brent Elementary School
  • Vanway Elementary School

So get out there and let your council know you care.

Second I would like to thank Albert Koelher for participating in the pgelxn blog. I would also like to thank school board trustee candidates Katie Cooke, Don Sabo, Denise MacdonaldDori Alger, Tony Cable, Trish Bella, and Valentine Crawford all for participating as well. I have chatted with candidates and it looks like this election was a lot more work than ones past so I hope that means that more people are getting out to vote. Maybe positive changes are coming for our city.

Thirdly I was sent an email the other day that gave me a huge boost. This blog takes a lot of time during election time and I do it because I want to help make Prince George a great city. So when I get emails like the one below

“Thanks for hosting all of this information centrally.  This made me feel a lot more informed regarding the candidates and perceived issues for Prince George.  I think this is the push I need to get out and vote this year. A great big thank you!  Laura”

it makes it all worthwhile. My goals has always been to get more people out to vote and with the number of views I have been getting this last week (3026 on Thursday and 2768 as of 10:08pm on Friday) I know people are finding value in this blog.

The fourth and last thing I would like to talk about is something that happened to one of the council candidates. Unfortunately Trent Derrick answers to his Prince George Citizen questions got switched with someone else and he is getting dragged through the mud for these other answers. I don’t know what happened at the Prince George Citizen, but Trent has proved me a link to his correct answers on the updated Citizen article on their website. Follow the link below

6384459Well yesterday was a busy day for the PGELXN Blog as 407 people visited the page to grab their information for the upcoming election, which by the way is only 10 days away. I have added two more candidates to the blog. Thank You Jason Luke and Ravi Saxena for submitting your platform and information so the citizens of Prince George can make informed decisions on November 15th.

Have you made your decision yet as to who you are voting for? Leave comments here and let us know who you are voting for and why?

17 more council candidates to go!

Another 4Well we are getting down to the final days of the campaign trail for all the candidates with only 13 day until decision day. Thank you to Debora Munoz, Harry Ulch, Terri McConnachie, and Travis Shaw for participating in the PGELXN blog. We now have 9 candidates participating on the blog. Spread the word so we can get the other 17 council candidates to participate and the 2 mayoral hopefuls.

The volume of traffic has picked up since the lost post and is now receiving 100 visits a day steadily. I suspect that like last time that number will grow significantly as we draw closer to election day.

This year I have not been able to make it out to very many of the forums that go on in the city during election time. Not everyone can get to the forums, so my hope with this post is that people will leave comments highlighting the best parts of the forums that they attended so that people can get an idea of what is being said by the candidates.

20 Days & Counting

4Well we are now only 20 days away for election day. Thank you Brian Mix, Jillian Merrick, Monica Peacock, and Trent Derrick for your participation in the PGELXN blog. More candidates have contacted me and are going to participate in the PGELXN blog, so keep checking back. My goal is to have 100% participation this election so that the citizens of Prince George can get their information and get out and vote.  Spread the word and let people know that there is a resource out there to help gathering your information to vote easier.

There has been some questions on Twitter about why I do not include the school trustees in the blog. Last election I decided to create this blog a bit late in the election and did not have enough time to gather what I needed to make it fair for the people running. This year with 26 people running for council and two running for mayor I have found it a bit overwhelming to include the 18 school trustee candidates as well. That would bring the total number of candidates on the blog for this year to 46. I hope that there is someone in Prince George willing to take on the school trustees and help them have their voices heard.

Two More & A New Poll!

I can’t say I am completely surprised at the results of the Campaign Sign poll. What did catch me off guard was the numbers. I know people didn’t find much use for them, but 90% of the 69 votes said no to Campaign Sign helping in their decision-making. All the money and time that candidates waste in putting up signs and it all maybe for nothing. I’m sure it’s not a complete loss as just the sight of them on a regular basis may help your brain recall their name when at the voting booth when you’re not sure who the last few votes should go to.

With the Campaign Sign poll over a week old I have decided to started a new poll. I had a request that I put up a poll to see who the site visitors are going to vote for in the mayoral race. I have left the Campaign Sign poll open if you’d still like to vote on that one as well, so let your voice be heard!

I have also received two responses from council candidates in the past few days. Thanks you to Murry Krause and  Dave Wilbur for participating in this blog. That just leaves council candidates Brian Skakun, Lyn Hall, Brad Gagnon, John Beebe, Scot Affleck and Mayoral Candidates Eugene Fetterly, and Alex Huber left to respond. I hope they respond soon as the election is only 8 days away and people need to have their information to make informed decisions.

I would also like to thank council candidate Garth Frizzell for inviting me to the town hall meeting on his election website I will be one of a few asking him question during this time and you the public will be able to listen to his responses. The town Hall meeting is going to Thursday Nov 18th at 07:00pm, so go by his site and check it out. If you have any questions you think I should ask leave your question in the comment section.

Almost There

Well we are almost there in more ways than one. The first is November 19th is only 13 days away, so crunch time for the candidates is upon them. The second is I have 5 more response from Candidates. Thank You to Dan Rogers, Shari Green, Bruce Fader, Harry Ulch, and Cameron Stolz for participating in this blog for the citizens of Prince George. Check out the Mayoral and Council Candidates pages for their submissions.

The last of the public Forums is tomorrow night at the College Of New Caledonia at 6 pm. This one is being hosted by the Prince George Chamber of Commerce and the Prince George Library. Get there early if you was a seat as I’m sure it will fill fast and you’ll get left standing.

I put up a poll on the blog over the weekend about Campaign Signs. I’m hoping you’ll still answer the question. The response so far has been good and surprising, so keep checking back to find out the results and the comments.

Prince George Citizen Fourm

Well tonight was the Prince George Citizen forum at the Ramada Hotel and it was very well attended. every seat in the house was full and the sides as well as the atrium outside of the conference room was pack with standing citizens. It was great to see this type of response from the city seeing as the first three forums had very poor turn out. Only three candidates did not make this forum and those were Brandon Lewis, Bruce Fader, and Travis Smith. There was a lot of great questions and the council candidates only have 30 seconds to answer them. Mayoral candidates had a minute to answer the questions, but this was in part due to only four candidates showing up. I hope that this is a sign of things to come, and I believe it is, as we get closer to the November 19th election.

I have added another submission to the council page. This submission is from Myrt Turner. With this submission i now have only 9 more council candidates to get submissions from and 5 more mayoral candidates. I have gotten e-mails from a few saying they are sending in something and I have chat with a few at the forums that have said the same thing. So we should have full participation.

I have received an e-mail from a school trustee that is hoping I can add a page on here for them. I will be adding that page in the next day or two as I am hearing a demand for citizens for this as well. I have not been overly interested in the School district trustee race, but seeing as I have two daughters that attend school in Prince George I should probably take a much bigger interest in how running and what for.

Here are a few of the tweets that came up on twitter from the Prince George Citizen forum….

Three more!

Hello all back here with another update from three Candidates. Thank you to Dorothy Friesen, Garth Frizzell, and Debora Munoz for being apart of this initiative. I hope to meet up with the candidates that have not responded  tonight at the forum that is being held at Cafe Voltaire which is in Books & Company on 2nd Ave. I hope to see lot of people there tonight and bring your questions. There is another Forum tomorrow night at the Ramada Inn starting at 6:00pm. This forum is being held by local newspaper The Prince George Citizen and will be a good one to attend. So if you can`t make it out tonight then try to attend the one tomorrow.

There has been a recent update to the forum page and a new forum has now been added. The new one is being held by the Prince George Chamber of Commerce and is on Nov 8th at 6:00pm at the College of New Caledonia. Thank you to Garth Frizzell for the comment on the forum page about the new forum. I’ve heard whispers that the Prince George Native Friendship Centre is looking at doing a forum, but it is just whispers and time is running out so I would not count on much happening there. Check out the forum page for other details and other forums that will be going on around the Prince George area.

Spread the words to your friends and family about this resource. The more people who visit the site the word will get out and people will have a place to read and make informed decisions. The vote is your to us, we just have to get out and use it. #iheartPG
